H.M.S INVINCIBLE

14″ by 19″    Acrylic on paper.   SOLD

The brainchild of the great naval reformer Admiral Fisher, Invincible was designed with the speed of a cruiser and the guns of a battleship. Invincible and her sister Inflexible more than fullfilled Fishers hopes when they overtook and destroyed the German amoured cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in the Battle of the Falklands. What they were not designed fore was battle with their own kind and three of them including H.M.S Invincible were blown up at the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
